Intership

at RED JOKER

During the summer of 2019 I did a 2 month internship for RED JOKER a board game publishing company.

I worked on several of their projects but mainly on "Okko: Oni Hunter" a game based on the Okko comic book license published by Delcourt.

Okko Oni hunter is on Kickstarter !!

WORK SETUP

My internship was a remote working contract so I was working alone most of the time with the exception that every 3 days my internship supervisor called me to give me some feedback on my work.

Apart from these regular meetings I had complete creative freedom.

I think that this experience allowed me to learn how to better manage my time and to get a good sense of autonomy.

My Mission

Basically my mission was to create content for the game;

I had to create five game boards, one for each cycle of the comic book with the goal that each board would bring to life the memorable moments of the comic book.

The creation of each board started with a level design.

Then for each board I had to create and test unique mechanics to immerse the player. The challenges were that they had to be reminiscent of the events in the comic book, functional and balanced at the same time.

Finally each board comes with its own set of about 40 cards.

Like with the board mechanics, these sets of cards had to: both refer to elements of the comic book and be balanced at the same time.

Not having the possibility to organize play tests, I had to rely on statistics to balance the different elements I produced.
