Strategy game

Orbi Universo

Orbi Universo is a strategy game where the player guides a civilization from the Stone Age to the first steps on the moon.
In this game we wanted to detach ourselves from classic strategy games by proposing an abstract management of the elements of civilization. Using nodes that interact with each other, the player can invest in them.

Since January 2020, the Orbi Universo Team is a company totally dedicated to improving the Orbi Universo game.

State of Game

Orbi Universo started as a simple student project. But the team knew we had a gold nugget in our hands and we decided to turn it into a full game, but it's not easy when you are a team of 4 young people. However the project is still going on and we plan to release the final update in late 2021. Despite all these obstacles, we are making progress every day and have managed to gather a community (more than 5500 copies sold at the date of 12/03/2021), which is growing day by day and is interacting and helping us to improve our product.

My Work in Details

During the production, my main mission is to rationalize and improve the UI (User interface).

The Orbi Universo team being without a Game Artist, we limited the visual aspect to a minimum, which made the UI the only visual element present on the screen to indicate information to the player.

These documents were used at the start of production to test different shapes and colors that we were going to use to quickly inform and guide the player.

The main challenge was to give as much information as possible while avoiding any confusing situations.

Once the basics were set. I worked on improving the UI taking into account the play-test feedback and the implementation of new features.

The above document presents the progress of the integration of the UI by the programmer.

Another of my missions is to help with the creation of the content. As the system is becoming exponentially complex to be produced by a single person, it had to be segmented.

I took care of the segment about religion.

The 1st stage is to design the interactions and the order of appearance of the nodes (see above).

Then to have them validated by the main system game designer.

Once the design is validated, I then work on the script to be able to test and iterate on new parts of the system.
